New Details Emerge About Bugingo’s Assassination Attempt

More details have emerged about the assassination attempt on the life of House of Prayer Ministries senior pastor, Aloysius Bugingo. Unknown assailants moving on a motorcycle on Tuesday night shot at Bugingo’s car killing his bodyguard, Richard Muhumuza. The Nile Post has however separately learnt that the deceased is a UPDF officer attached to the Special Forces Command(SFC). Contacted for a comment, SFC spokesperson, Maj Jimmy Omara confirmed Muhumuza was their officer at the rank of corporal.

Deceased Guard Identified as UPDF Officer from Elite Force

“It is true, he is ours. As SFC, we have launched investigation into the matter to find out what exactly transpired,” Maj Omara said. He said the deceased’s body is currently still at Mulago city mortuary pending postmortem, adding that the UPDF will handle burial preparations.

“At this point the planning for a sendoff is ongoing. Once the post mortem is done, burial arrangement shall kick off. We are saddened by his loss.” Investigations have begun into the shooting, with Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire stating that the incident happened at around 9pm along at Bawalakata junction along National Housing road at Namungoona zone 2 in Lubaga division.

The assailants opened fire on Bigingo’s vehicle before swiftly escaping the scene on a motorcycle. It is reported that the assailants targeted the co-driver’s seat where they fired several shots that killed Bugingo’s guard instantly. Bugingo survived with injuries and is said to have driven the vehicle to Mulago hospital where it was confirmed that his bodyguard had passed on.

“In our active pursuit of justice, we are thoroughly reviewing CCTV footage to identify the assailants. Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available,” Owoyesigyire said. The Senior Presidential Advisor in charge of special operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba on Wednesday morning called for speedy investigations into the shooting.

“Once again, we urge our law enforcement agencies to quickly investigate and bring these criminals to justice,” Gen Muhoozi said. “Who are these criminals? Is it ADF or some shadowy group? We need answers to these questions.”
