President Museveni has been requested to use his powers to grant pardons to those for political prisoners.
This comes after other prisoners were released under Article 121 (1) (a) of the constitution, along with Chandi Jamwa, the former managing director of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
The Democratic Party’s (DP) acting spokesperson, Ismael Kirya, observed the apparent disparity.
“Mr. Chandi Jamwa was given a 12-year prison sentence after the Anti-Corruption Court found him guilty of causing financial loss to NSSF”.
“This is a good gesture to show some forgiveness to such people, but we want to see the same on other prisoners, like those sentenced in the 2021 elections.”
“We would like to know if this article is discriminatory or works in isolation.” Kirya added.
