Spread the gospel of girl-child education-VP Alupo urges parents
RUBIRIDI DISTRICT: Parents have been asked to spread and implement the gospel of girl-child education to end the vicious cycle of poverty in our communities.
Speaking during the opening of St. Elizabeth Girls’ School, Kikumbo in Rubirizi district yesterday, the Vice president Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo said an educated woman is an asset to the nation.
“We cannot end the vicious cycle of poverty in our communities if the girl child is not empowered through education. An educated woman is an asset for the family, community, government and the nation at large, the vice president said.
She encouraged parents to also instill values and morals in the girl-child. “Now that the Church and the political leaders have brought this school, dear parents, I urge you to support the school in every way you can but more importantly, to keep your daughters in school,” she said
Alupo was happy that the school has come as an addition to government’s efforts to empower the girl-child through education.
“Education is the master key to empowerment of girls in our communities and redressing historical injustices against women that were perpetuated by backward cultural attitudes and practices that did not value formal education for girls,” she said. https://doskfm.com/ple-exams-to-be-released-on-25th-january
Alupo encouraged the founders of the school and the community to draw inspiration from the Parable of the Mustard Seed, in the book of Matthew 13:31-21, where it is written that, the kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”
The vice president was glad that this school is built on a strong foundation of the church and the values that the church preaches and practices. She thanked Kikumbo Catholic Parish under the leadership of Father Alex Mubangizi and the area Member of Parliament Hon. Muhammad Kato, whose efforts and foresighted leadership led to the establishment of this school.
To our children, the vice president encouraged to be honest, hardworking, disciplined and humble but above all, be God-fearing.
“Focus on your studies and do not get excited or carried away by the material things of this world. Never forget where you come from. When you succeed, you lift many people in your family, clan and community with you,” she counselled.
She told the smart students, that through education, they are the torch leading the way for your families. “As His Excellency the President and the Fountain of Honour, has always advised the youth, avoid reckless behaviour.https://patriots.co.ug/vp-jessica-alupo-urges-parents-to-prioritize-girl-child-education-at-st-elizabeth-girls-school-inauguration
The country needs you healthy and strong for you to make your contribution to Uganda’s development,” Alupo said.
She once again, thanked the Church and the area MP for this important contribution to the development of this area through this school.
The school’s enrolment is steadily growing with students coming from as far as Moyo, Isingiro, Ntungamo, Mbarara and Rubirizi districts.
According to Hon. Kato the proprietor, the school was founded on a building of four classrooms of which some were used as dormitories and the other two as class rooms.
He told the vice president that as the student population grows, the infrastructure needs of the school will inevitably grow however, the school management plans to build a three storied building to accommodate the projected growth in student numbers.
Fr. Mubangizi in his preaching, asked the students to put God first in all their endavours and appealed to them to avoid early marriages and unplanned pregnancies which would frustrate their efforts to completing the education cycle.
He noted that establishment of the school, is a positive development in this area as it will bring education services closer to our people.
